Beware CREDITONE, LLC!

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend received a notice the other day from CREDITONE, LLC stating that he owed money on an account that he settled with and paid off in October 2002.  Luckily, he keeps all of his information and we sent off a letter to them today CMRRR along with a copy of the letter from the original collection agency stating that the account was settled in full along with the date.

Just wanted everyone to know that if you get a notice from CREDITONE, LLC they are a junk debt collector and no good!!

Re: Beware CREDITONE, LLC!

Can they be sued for trying to collect on something that has been paid in full in addition to it being over and done with for years? I would call this fraud.

Re: Beware CREDITONE, LLC!

I'm not sure what the rules/regulations are for suing or if this is a breach of anything on their part.  I'm so glad my bf saves all his records.  Without them, he would have been in big trouble.  We were going to DV them, but when we reviewed their notice it listed everything required of them except for the original address and contact info of the original lender.

Re: Beware CREDITONE, LLC!

I opened a letter mailed to my house for my ex-husband (we've been divorced 8 years) from them on an account that was IIB. The account was joint but he's never lived at this address and my name wasn't mentione on the letter. I didn't pay any mind to who it was addressed to b4 I opened it I was wondering if I should address it before they escalate to trying to report it. Absolutely a jdb.

Do you have the address he replied to? I'm trying to mail them a pay for delete letter and the one I sent got returned to me. Thank you!

In general, no.

The debt is obviously past CRTP.  It may also be past SOL, depending on the state you are in.  Therefore, even if BF did not have the records, there is little recourse on the part of the CA.

If you put the CA on notice to cease and desist all communications, they are effectively silenced.  If they attempted to sue, then you may enter a defense of SOL, of if you happen to be in a state that has exceptionally long SOL periods, you may use your documented proof of payment.

But you took the right course.  Send copies of the payment and settlement by CMRRR.  Keep these records as well just in case they take any additional actions.

Re: Beware CREDITONE, LLC!

michele, i work for creditone, llc. im not goin to sit up here and say that this company is the best debt collection company out there but at the same time creditone is a legit company. we follow the rules of the fdcpa to the fullest. we only collect on accounts that we purchased from the original creditor. and if the account is paid in full already we ask for a paid in full letter. if u can prove it we tell u to disregard the letter and have a nice day. so therefore dont blame credtione and say they are dis and they are that because WE do our job.

Their Better Business Bureau rating is an 'F', which is the worst possible rating. That gives everyone an indication of the quality of the company.

I couldn't possibly disagree more with your response. I'm going to guess that you are a debt collector....

Why should the burden of proof be on the individual and not the company claiming they owe money? Does this mean I can mail you a letter saying you owe me a thousand dollars and if you can't provide me with a paid in full letter I can place a collection on your credit report until you pay up?

So many of these collection agencies are bordering on mafia tactics it is unreal. To hear one of their employees attempt to articulate why their company isn't completely worthless is a real comedy.

A reiteration to minimize info on the net. That person obviously googled the company name, registered as a user, and less than 10 minutes later did their rant and haven't logged in since. I regret nothing I've said about BYL. lol
