Beware Chase if you are switching from Wamu

My gripe involves Chase apparently not reversing late fees even when they may be at fault.

As the story goes, I tried to make my wamu credit card payments on time, but the payment was rejected as the account numbers from all accounts are changing.  When I called to clarify and attempt to make the payment and get the late fees reversed.  I was gunned down repeatedly.

They had visual evidence on my statement verifying that an attempt to pay had been made but was rejected even though it was an active account with plenty of money in it.  The attempted payment was made a week early, AND they probably have evidence that I have a perfect payment history if they have access to that history from Wamu.  Still, they would not even discuss a reversal of a late charge if I made the payment again, only one day after it was due.

End result, my money is out of Chase if they have this kind of policy.   That's just bad customer service in a time where customers don't trust banks very much.

Any idea of where to put my money?

I would say Credit Union. I am a little perturbed at mine at the moment but there are plenty of good ones out there. They tend to be more human (or is that humane?).

Re: Beware Chase if you are switching from Wamu

I recently went on a bit of an app spree because of two of my Wamu accounts becoming Chase accounts. The reason?...their incredibly inept record keeping or CSRs.

The day after  the change-over took place  I called because  I couldn't see payments I had made to my accounts weeks before the change and their site showed my payments due that day and not yet paid . Of course I was concerned. The CSR I spoke with had totally different information in front of him as to dates and amounts of payments and seeemed to be totally nonchalant and unconcerned about the matter. Myself, I wanted some type of reassurance that my payments would be credited correctly and that these two accounts would not be shown as having late payments because of mistakes Chase had made. No such reassurance, just told to check back the next day.

Eventually my accounts were credited correctly, but not before causing me a day or two of worry.

ETA: I opened several new accounts after this...my favorite is US Bank for credit card and Alliant Credit Union for savings.
