CCards? -Don't "Close" but Don't Use?

Re: Utilization % and credit rating (e.g. "available" -vs- "utilized")

If a credit card balance can be paid off, is it then better to leave the account open w/ "0" balance and its available/total credit line intact?
This would seem to help in the credit ratings score calculations.

Yes.  Leave it open and use it once evewry couple of months to keep it alive and being part of your utilization
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

FICO likes to see that you can manage your credit, meaning keep your util below 9%.

If your util is always 0%, this won't help you because you aren't "managing" your credit, you just aren't using it.

So, as mentioned, let them report a small balance every now and then.
