CRA obligations?

Hi, all.  Can anyone tell me what duty the CRAs have to report correct information, or are they under no such duty as they merely report what is reported to them?  I mean, if they know that information they are providing is incorrect, are they obligated to correct that information, or does the obligation rest solely with the creditor?

I ask because reps at Equifax have ascertained that Sun Trust Bank is reporting incorrect information, but offered only to begin yet another (6th-7th?) investigation.  Sigh.

Re: CRA obligations?

I was being a smartass... of course they have obligations. If they violate the FCRA you sue.

Re: CRA obligations, et. al.

It's that midwestern sense of humor that comes from too many long, holed up winters, that also serve to keep us fairly well read, though, huh, Tusc?

Anyway ... how do you, in citing the law, make the Section symbol on these pages?  I have a keystroke assigned in Word,  but how do you do it on here?

Thanks.  Smiley Wink

Re: CRA obligations?

The FCRA has real teeth that can take a big bite out of a CRA, and there's plenty of caselaw behind it.
