Calf Def Judgment – Can they access my credit file?

Hey All: Great Forum. Have a default judgment against me from 2002. Was assigned to a “judgment enforcement” firm. I *never* gave my SSN or permission to the original creditor. Is was a small claims fight (as opposed to a credit card with a formal application). So can this firm legally access my credit file?

The permissible purposes for credit reporting agencies to provide credit reports are identified in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 USC 1681b).  Also, read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act provisions regarding "Communication in connection with debt collection" (25 USC 1692c(b)).  There may also be laws in your state that impose greater restrictions on the debt collectors.

If they have judgment against yes, they could access your credit file, garnish your wages and if you dont comply with the judge orders, you could even be sent to Jail for contempt.
