Calls From Asset Acceptance & Checking My CR - PLEASE HELP What Do I Do

About a month ago or so I noticed Asset Acceptance pulled my credit report.  I have now been receiving computer generated calls. Being paranoid and basically stupid I called today because I know I owe no one anything.  Representative asked me for the number called and verifies my name which I give her. She proceeds to give her disclosure and states the call is in reference to a landline phone bill. Advised know not what she speaks of (because I do not). She then asks me to verify the last four digits of my SSN which I do not. She then asks me to verify my address which I do not. I advise send whatever  they have to me in writing. She states they have sent two notices, I am not working with her, and if this is identity theft she needs me to verify something.

I again advise her to send what she has in writing to whatever address she has. If they are the collection agency then they should have the information needed. She again stated (as her voice continues to escalate) that I am not working with her and need to verify.  At this point I am agitated and hang up.

So what do I do now? I have heard this is a sneaky company. Do I need to send something in writing? DO I wait for documentation?  They claim something has been sent twice, but I have received nothing. I don't want to incur a blemish on my report.

Re: Calls From Asset Acceptance & Checking My CR - PLEASE HELP What Do I Do

I'm thinking if they have gained a phone number to reach you from your credit reports, they can surely get the address as well so they can send the letter.

They have been pulling my EX report every few days, but I have not received any calls. I really don't know who they would be collecting for unless it is something terribly old. Everything for the last several years is paid.

Yes, they are sneaky. I will be keeping an eye out for them too!

Greetings Purple, someone I know had trouble with the same company. And yes they are very sneaky..She didn't get the written notices or even the phone call!!!!  She got served with a summons to appear in court. Laws in every state are different I'm sure, but she immediately hired an attorney. Once this attorney contacted Asset Accept they acknowledged the SOL were expired and they had no case.  Hope it doesn't get that far for you.

Was this a hard pull?

If so, I'd send a Non-PP letter and see what response you get.

They HAVE to mail you something in writing within 5 days of the initial communications.

Is your current address on your CR?

Watch the mail closely, who knows what the envelope will look like or say.

Re: Calls From Asset Acceptance & Checking My CR - PLEASE HELP What Do I Do

It was a soft pull.  I feverishly watch my mail since I have been improving my credit to prevent nonsense like this from happening (ugg).

I found an old report from TU (6/2005) which has the debt they are trying to collect on it.  There were two bills from the landline company which I found were incorrect (transferred my service) and disputed.  One was deleted this one remained, but fell off a month later. In addition, it shows the estimated date the account should fall off as 08/2007.

I also found an EQ report from 2004 which has the debt as well, but the CA was CFC Financial. Shows DOLA as 09/2000.

Is there anything additional I should since I found these reports with these dates?  Can these reports be used to prevent further collection?

Keep those reports!

If past SOL(i assume it is) I would send them a "past SOL" and C&D letter.

Do I send them something even though I have not received any written correspondence yet? I just don't want to get an alert, pull my report, and see they have reported an invalid collection.

PurpleHaze.....I get those calls every once in a while...I tell they right away NOT to call again or they will be in violation!  I never say anything more.

If I get anything in the mail I toss it.  Most know that they can not put it on your CR.

You can ask for their co.name & address & mail them a letter telling them no calls and the past SOL & CRTP.   I never bother & so far nothing is on my CR.

Just keep the old reports & watch your CR so that if they try to report you will be ready.

I also don't pay attention to any soft pulls.
