Can Equifax still show negative comments after 7 years?

I had a car loan from US Bank. It was repoed for nearly 2 days after i missed several payments from June 2017 to November 2017. Since then the "Additional Information" section on my EQ report has stated "Redeemed or Reinstated Repossesion". The vehicle has been paid off for a few years and nothing else on the account hints at anything negative. Just that redeemed repo comment. I disputed it with US Bank and then Equifax and they both said the information was accurate and will continue to report. Even though I never disputed the accuracy in and of itself, just the 7 year time frame. So, is this negative comment actually permissible 8 plus years since DOFD and nearly 8 years since the most recent late payment?

@wutdafico

The 7-year rule is based on the DOFD (Date of First Delinquency) that led to the repossession, and most negative items should fall off by then. If it’s been 8+ years since the DOFD, the remark shouldn’t still be showing. Sometimes lenders code the account in a way that causes the comment to stay, even if the tradeline itself is aged out. You might want to file a dispute with Equifax again, but this time focus strictly on the age of the item rather than accuracy, and reference the FCRA’s 7-year reporting limit. If they don’t remove it, you can escalate to the CFPB.
