Signed for a cell phone account for my ex mother-in-law, now deceased. My fault...$94.00 went to collection/charge off, at which time I paid profit AND loss (6/2006).
Alltel reports this TWICE with two different account numbers. I call them to rectify, call the bureaus, dispute online and in writing. I receive confirmation that the information is correct!! Call again, dispute again, this time as DUPLICATES OF EACH OTHER.
Alltel now reports collection account in July 2008, when I DISPUTED. I try to correct that, but everytime I call, it seems to move the activity clock UP, and I can't seem to communicate with anyone who will actually look at the accounts to see that they're duplicates and incorrectly reported.
Score went from 695 down to 667 I have some other 30 day lates, and a (gasp) consumer finance account (which I didn't realize was derogatory-I took the no interest for a year deal on a home theater).
Subsequently, AMEX takes my Blue Card limit from $6500 down to $500!!!
I think it's impossible to win unless someone can please help me with usable info on how better to go about these disputes.
Additional info. I paid off ALL of my personal credit card debt with the exception of one card account and a total of 7% utilization of my available credit in an effort to rehabilitate my score. Household income is over $250K....and this is driving me crazy.
Anyone???
Thanks...this is my first post. Please forgive any errors in form or procedure.

While Alltel reporting twice is certainly disputable, I would stop. Each time you dispute, as you pointed out, Allltel will update the CR. Sometimes FICO reads these updates as if the baddie were brand new. Now your score rebounds relatively quickly, but with each new dispute it brings you back down.
I personally would write Alltel and point out that they are reporting x2 for the same paid account. Point out that the second TL is hurting your CR and that you are asking for help in getting it removed. Also ask for goodwill in getting the correct one removed. There are GW example letters in here somewhere. It is a letter you may have to write from scratch, but at least you'd get the idea.
I would send 1 letter to the address listed in the CR. After no response for about 30 days or so or a response in the negative, then I would try planetfeedback.com, I'd mail letters to the execs, I'd blitz them with every address I could find. I would also consider the BBB if all else failed.
