Seems like over the years several people have asked the same question and the answer seems different each time. Don't see anything recent (within the past year) so I figured i'd ask.
Anyone have luck getting Capital One to do a mid-cycle balance update?
I ask because I have a $10k limit on my QuickSilver VISA and showing a $9k balance. Paid it all off and hoping to get a small increase to my FICO (auto purchase next week) and bump me up a little.
Some people posted to change your address or report the car lost in the past and that would trigger a CRA update.
Anyone have any advice or can speak from experience?
Some say yes. Some say no. Only takes a phone call and ask. Not blowing you off. Dont know until you try. Then report back on if its a yes or no. That'll help others in the same boat. Good Luck!
Waited until 9am and gave Capital One a call.
Talked to a rep who said they don't do that and doesn't even know who/how to go about even submitting a request so I was transferred to a supervisor. Gave them a sob story about how I needed my $0 balance to reflect with the CRAs in order to get a mortgage etc and she did submit some kind of request and said it will be reviewed and can take up to 7-10 business days (ughh...hoping for a quicker turnaround).
Once I get an update i'll post it here.
Also, I called American Express yesterday (Presidents Day holiday) and requested a mid-cycle update. They transfered me to the department hat handles those requests and they submitted it. Just checked with Experian and it's already showing an updated balance ($0 with amex as well).
I also just got off the phone with Discover. Probably the easies to get this done with. Length of the call was 46 seconds. They answered, I asked for a mid-cycle update, she said "ok" and read a disclaimer about how it can take a few days and that was it.
Not sure why some companies are so difficult about getting a mid-cycle update and some are so easy to deal with. I can see them putting a limit of only 1 time per year or so in order to limit costs etc but at the very least they should offer to update the balance if you had a considerable balance with them and paid the whole thing off.
Final update:
Capital One has done a mid-cycle update and is now reporting a $0 balance on all 3 CRAs. (48 hours after my call to them)
Moral of the story...
Capital One does NOT do mid-cycle updates normally. If you're super nice, tell them some really convincing sob story on why you need it they'll get a supervisor to submit a request and will do it.
Same here. Called capital one friday told them im in the middle of getting mortgage approvals and needed a mid cycle update, transferred to a supervisor who told me would put in a request and would be reviewed in 7-10 business days, today all three credit bureaus updated to zero (2 business days later)
@justjess, thanks for providing an update on this.
