Capital One Settle Or PIF ??

I Have Two Things Going On Asset Acceptance  collecting on an accout thats not mine

And CAPITAL ONE.

I have 3 capital one account thats charged off I have tried to PFD for one year they wont budge and I hire a company to try no no no!! they are my oldest account my first credit so i just realized I dont want them deleted. they offer a settlement, I can pay in full but I also need the money, I may need to get a lawyer for asset acceptance Smiley Happy

Will a settlement hurt me ? it looks bad on the CR if someone pulls it, I'm not buying a house, Car or applying for anymore credit i'm set for now, I'm just trying to bring up my scores TU 578- EQ 646- EX 564 FICO Simulator said to pay down balance on cards and Capital one are the only balance I have,
So since I dont need any immediate credit should I settle?-ANS

Re: Capital One Settle Or PIF ??

Anything that will get the balance to show $0 instead of whatever it is, will benefit you some because it will decrease your UTL.  I'm not sure how big a difference it would make if it showed PIF or Settled.

The big thing to keep in mind if you settle, is that if you settle and don't pay $600 or more of the debt (I think that's the magic number hopefully someone will confirm/correct me if not) then you'll most likely get a tax form from Cap1 and you'll have to claim the unpaid portion and pay taxes on it next year.

Ex:  Debt is $1900, you settle and pay $1000, you'll have to claim the extra $900 when you file your 08 taxes and might owe the IRS a little something.  However a little something to the IRS is going to be significantly less than the $900 lol  You'd just want to plan ahead so you'll have the money come next April haha Smiley Wink
