Hello!
I applied for CareCredit, and they denied me for the following reasons.
-insufficient credit history on file
How do I get credit history on file?
They ran the credit using Trans Union.

Capitol One is good with no credit profiles. If you are approved for Cap One Quick Silver 1 then you will also qualify for the Platinum MC - these are their starter cards. App one after the other if you get an approval. You may also try for a dept store card via shopping trick. This will give you 3 cards to start building with.
I just applied for Cap One Quick Silver 1 and I was denied.
You're probably going to need to look into a couple secured credit cards to build a credit file.
I'm surprised CareCredit, a product marketed to low income, low credit score, high risk individuals would deny for no file. No file has always seemed less risky to me than their normal clientele.
But, it is what it is - get a Capital One Journey or Discover IT for Students to start off with

yes i would reccomend a cap one secured card and keep it for 6+ months then try to apply for an unsecured card
Assuming you have no history, I don't know why people are recommending secured cards. Secured cards are a rip off for people with bad credit. You should be able to get something like a Capital One Journey (no fee), or even an Amex or Discover card (they both tend to like being people's first card, from what I've seen).
Frankly, I'd try for an Amex Everyday, and if declined, then spend one more HP and try for a Capital One Journey. The Everyday is a great card, if you can get it. If not, the Journey will be a good start.

We will process your application as soon as possible and send you a decision within 14 days to the address below:
Awesome, now call them Tuesday morning (because Monday is a holiday) at 877-399-3083 and ask try to get a decision on the phone, obviously don't sound credit-needy but be willing to give them income details, etc and explain WHY you have a blank file (no need for credit, seeking to be fiscally responsible, etc).
You wouldn't be the first person I've known who's got an Amex Everyday as a first card (you'd be the second, but I also know a BCE and a Costco). Amex actually values relationships, and while no one can guarantee an app, if you get in with them life is good (as long as you don't lie about income then get an FR... but if you're honest it's great). Don't get me wrong, everything I say about credit being maths not emotion is true; but if there is a creditor with a heart it's definitely Amex. Yes, it's a financial decision, but there are also some really great people in the company and they treat their customers like gold.
If you don't get approved, you should get approved for the Journey no problem as long as you're a student. I think they'll give it to any student with no history, I've even heard of non-students getting it. They used to have a card for newcomers to the US - identical to the Journey but no pretense of needing to be a student.
