No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I check my accounts every other day. Today I checked one of my credit cards, that I haven't used since the 22nd of Oct and there they were. Three separate charges of $100 each from one company, CCB--L.com, who I have never heard of. (Masked the name since Im not sure about forum rules re posting company names)
Filed a dispute with my cc security department who closed the account, opened an investigation and will send me another card. Just know my average account age will take a hit for this one. Almost want to go for that Discover card...hmpf. Not sure how I feel right now. Not entirely pissed since I caught them the day after but wondering how they got my cc info.
Haven't ordered out. No dominos, no chinese. No shopping online. No ebooks lately. Info not stored on my PC. Only thing is the auto pay from my phone co and a walmart charge on the 22nd which was the last time I used the card. Ya think walmart is the prob? Naaawww. Had a tight grip on that card. Lady swiped and I held out my hand for it. SO how did they get the info?? That's the only thing running through my mind right now. How did they do it?
CC company said it was some telemarketing thing??? I always hang up on those annoying folks. Don't answer any phones, auto delete all SPAM.
Anyone have any ideas or issues with this? Im gonna be going over my checking account AGAIN with a fine tooth comb at the end of the month.
The CCC will send you papers to sign. The FTC says to mail it back to them CMRRR!! You can also fax it to them BUT CMRRR also!!
The new CC will have the same open date so you will not lose age.
I was just watching a news segment on this. It is not very hard to gain some one's CC number when using an ATM, paying at the gas pump or at a checkout.
Some how it is scanned twice and they save the information for later use.
I keep an eye out for double dipping and since I only use my card at Walmart, have it set up for Verizon auto pay and occasionally the supermarket, I really don't know how they got the info.
My only thought is that someones system may be compromised? A hacker, maybe?
Got a letter from my CU:
Dear MV:
We have received a notice from our CC processor advising us of a possible compromise of CC ACs....
This situation is nationwide and has affected banks and CUs across the country
Ok HappyDays, I will keep an eye out for the paperwork. Looking into filing a complaint with the FTC if I can. I googled the website that showed up on my card and it had a RipOff Report on it with the same thing only this lady got a few $29.95 charges.
I will also keep an eye on the open date for the new card and hope all goes right with that.
Thanks
shawtycat,
I would put a 90 day FA on all three credit bureaus. Pull all three reports and look for: inquiries, new accounts, address change, etc.
Basically, put a temporary lock down on your credit.
Check all of your cc stmts and all of your banking stmts. Go over everything.
Good luck.
Funny. Couldn't find anything here in the states but there it was on the good ole BBC. "Trojan virus steals banking info". Wow. Wonder why it's not front page in the Daily News or NY Times. They said you don't have to do anything but just visit a website and your computer will be infected!? I need more info.
Checked all accounts and they are up to speed so far....meaning I still have my cash.
