i am supposedly on chexsystems blacklist for a CO overdraft bank account problem from 2004.
i remember having a collections company contact me about the problem and i believe i made a settlement with them.
i have not heard anything new on this situation and was made to believe i would be taken off the blacklist 18 months after i made the settlement.
i went to wells fargo to open a new checking account and they still have me on the blacklist.
i have no good info on this chexsystems and how it works. wells fargo says to contact them to figure out why i am still on their blacklist. i call the number provided but cannot speak to anyone it just seems to have an option to leave a message with them giving them a boatload of personal information. they also seem to have a website at consumerdebit.com but this seems sketchy and i am not sure what to trust and how to go about this.
so what is the deal with this chexsystem stuff? should i go through the website? is it legit?
i also noticed on the site that in the FAQ section they say negatives only remain for 5 years. so this is almost to that point anyway.

Pull Chex to see what is up. You can request a free copy. Info should be on there for 5 yrs. Yes, the website is a little weird. I was concerned too. But this is it.

Do they mail you the report or something? I just finished requesting it, kind of confused.

Yep, they will mail it. You'll get it in about 1 week.

The site is VERY VERY weird, absolutely!
When I tried ordering mine, I completed the form and got a "confirmation" that simply says "Your Report have been submitted successfully." And then nothing. Just an OK button that brings you back to the main page.
I was really freaked out that I'd just entered a bunch of personal info on a weird looking form only to receive a grammatically incorrect message and absolutely nothing useful.
But it turns out it really is legit They will mail you the report. It really would be nice if they would TELL you that anywhere on the site, though...

Yep ... definitely gave me the heebie-jeebies.
yeah the site looks bootleg and no confirmation once request submitted. however, i did receive my chex report w/i two weeks of the sketchy online request.
upon receiving the report which isn't pretty either, i was confused because there appear to be 2 inquiries on the report from banks where i have opened up checking acounts: wachovia and wamu (i sure know how to pick 'em, eh?) one seems to be a hard and one is soft, is that normal and/or problematic?
okay so i have requested the report from chex. hopefully it won't be too long.
so i wonder.. if this chex report has a negative on it still that is keeping me from getting a bank account would the chex report also be used to evaluate me for credit card accounts from the same banks? or do they only use the regular 3 credit agencies for that?
