A while a go I applied for Cap1 card and got approved. Before I even received the card, they restricted the account. I called and sent them driver license along with other info for verification. But they kept saying the account was placed on restriction due to potential fraud?!? I cut the card and just forgot about it. Now, I want to close the account entirely because there's no point of keeping such a low limit card and I can't even use it. I tried calling them but they kept transferring me around and nothing has been solve. What do I do now?
If you have a login ID and PW you should be able to close the account from the app or via Cap 1 website.
if you dont have the physical card anymore, it will be tougher to setup a user/login for it
i would call and stay on hold as long as you have to
depending on how long it has been since you 'forgot about it' you want to make sure no AF or fees hit, and then you end up with a late payment
i would make a big effort to clear this up
Once the card is listed as "restricted" you won't be able to do anything with it online, period. I dealt with this recently, and it was a major hassle. You've just got to keep after it with them on the phone and don't give up. I had to send them a picture of the back of my drivers license in order to close out my old secured card that they decided to put on "restricted" status for unknown reasons (I asked them outright and they refused to answer). I'm still waiting on my deposit return, and it's been weeks. My Quicksilver card is now in the bottom of the sock drawer, and it used to be my main card. I'm dealing strictly with my local credit unions from here on out for all my banking.
@Anonymous I'm confused.
Here, you're saying you didnt know about the card, and that it was result of a fraud, but now you opened it...
It would be a lot easier to help you if you tell the real story, otherwise it's a waste of your time and our members time.

I've actually had this happen in early 2015 to all 5 of Capital One Credit card Accounts. No lates. Utilization was around 30%. Accounts were opened in 2011 between HSBC, Orchard and Capital One. I faxed them everything they wanted and they wouldn't budge. Eventually I gave up and just kept paying the payments. Mid-2016 the accounts went past due and eventually charged off.
Fast forward to 2019. Credit Karma shows I was preapproved for a capital one, I applied and boom was approved. One card grew to 3 credit cards, 2 checking and savings account.
I thought all was good Until I realized they had an old phone number. I kept trying to update it but failed over the phone and online. Called the Excutive office a few times to get some help and finally spoke with someone who was able to get me to the Digital Team to had me verified using public records and boom all restrictions were off. They confirmed that the accounts that were CO (which I had already paid) were the holding me back from being able to update any account info. She also said at the time I added an Authorized User who violated the T&C's. I think it was my aunt who I was helping out in Canada. I added her to my account and she was using the card there. Apparently she also had Capital One in Canada too and it raised a red flag. At the time I did some reading and it was happeneing to others but it was very sporadic.
