I have received a letter from a collection agency just a few days ago, and just discovered that this agency is NOT licensed in my state. I went on the state website (michigan) and they were not there. (searched by name and also looked at the entire list licensed in my state) They stated in the letter that this is my "final opportunity to contact us to avoid further legal action:"
Do I have any recourse considering they have no license in my state? Should I report them to the state authorities? Any way I can make sure I am correct with this? How should I deal with them? This debt dates back to 2003 and this is the first bill I have ever received!
Thanks for any help! This whole thing has me scared!
