Collection Deleted from Equifax, now...

Last month, I disputed an open collection account from 2002 (I PIF in early 2003). The collection was showing on EQ with the full balance still owed. TU and EX both show the collection as paid 04/2003.

I received a letter from CSC Credit Services today that says they deleted the collection from my account on 09/20/07. Would I now be able to send a "not mine" dispute letter to TU and EX to see if I can get the collection deleted from those reports? Do you think it would work?

Thanks in advance!

It's not ethical to do so but fact of the matter is it will probably come back verified and stay there.  When are they scheduled to drop off and had you tried GW letters?

I'm not going to attempt it if it's unethical. Thanks.

The account is from 2002, so it would drop off in '09. I haven't GW'd it because I didn't know the company name until today. It is a Sprint cell phone collection that was under the name Div Adj. The account number doesn't list in my CR's.

The CSC dispute letter is showing Sprint PCS 09/01/2002.

lol honestly if the company name or any other major info was not showing on my CR I would probably consider disputing it myself.  With 2 years to go I would definitely take the time to do a nice GW letter.   I know CA are not as easy as OCs with it so I wish you extra luck as that would be great to get it off 2 years early.  Smiley Happy

Why is this unethical? The bill was paid in full and the CA deleted it from file, technically it is not his bill anymore. I would dispute as "not mine" cause it's really not yours if it doesnt exist in the files anymore.

The one that he disputed was in error as it showed the status as unpaid.  The other 2 are accurate and show the paid and still under SOL.  So, it would be unethical for him to dispute it as "not mine" as they are his and are reporting accurately.  He happened to just get lucky with the single removal, they could have just updated it to paid and left it.  So, it's a GW situation ( at least on these boards).  The only other possibility I can think of for him is if there is any chance that it's beyond reporting SOL.

Re: Collection Deleted from Equifax, now...

Update...

I double checked my TU CR and it lists the status as "Not Reported". I found a phone number for Diversified Adjustment Services and called them a couple minutes ago. They are unable to locate any account information for me. With that in mind, I am sending a dispute letter to TU to change the status from "Not Reported" to "Paid". I should be able to get that one to drop off if they can't find any corroborating information for my account.

I could also send a DV to EX to see what they come up with. More than likely, I should be able to get it to drop off in an "ethical" manner =)

Brilliant!  You keep getting lucky every day with this entry.  As far as TU goes what they are now saying is totally ethical for you to dispute, however don't ask for them to update it to paid as you have a good chance of them just wiping it for the incomplete/inaccurate info.   Ethics is different from using their own errors against them in a legitimate fashion.  You are 2 for 3 now.   Smiley Happy

DV letters DO NOT go to the CRAs.  just dispute it

What should I dispute it as? It technically is mine, but the CA has no information regarding the account or me.
