I didn't really know where to post this so I will try here;
I got a collection letter from these people about a past due amount of 363.23 from Regions Bank. I haven't banked with Regions since 2004 and when I switched all my accounts I owed them zero. I have received no letter of past due from Regions or anything. This isn't showing on any of my reports and and I have read several posts on other sites that these people are a little "suspect" in their tactics and even reporting a paid account. I have mailed, certified, a letter for them to validate the debt but haven't heard anything and calling them the only thing they ask, rather rudely, is for my SS# which I will not give them. What should be my next course of action? Has anyone ever had any dealings with them? I just don't need this "debt" popping up on my reports after a struggle to get above the 700 mark. Any advice is appreciated.
1. Opt out on all credit reports. As I understand it, it prevents/stops the credit bureaus from selling your information to people, including "collection agencies".
As for preventing it from reporting, nothing you can do right now.
Are they harassing you? Calling you?
Opt out with the CRA and your file is blocked for promotional purposes.
If you opt out with current creditors you are in good standing with it prevents them from sharing your information with others.
Send them a letter and tell them not to contact you by telepone only in writing and that your employeer does not allow you to receive calls at work.
They have to abide by this or they are in violation.
No, opting out does not hurt your score and yes that is all it does.
Do you have a copy of the letter you sent them? Was it sent CMRRR?
File complaints with the BBB in your state and theirs, your AG and the FTC. If they continue to call you at home and at work, they are in violation. $1000 per violation.
If you have caller ID, save the information. Save it in your cell phone. Document each occurence they call your work.
I would send them another letter, CMRRR, and advise they are in violation and if they continue to call your home and work you will not hesitate to sue them.
