I wish I never started watching this credit score. I have brought utilization down to less than 30%, paid off loans and decreased debt but when I went on the Experian site, I recieved an email that I applied for an unsecured loan on some outrageous amount and was denied. My score dropped 17 points down to 760. I got pissed and tried to call Experian and that is a circle jerk. Is there anyway to contact these people.
I did not apply for anything and if they are jumping on me I think I should just delete Experian.

Maybe someone else applied in your name, should check that out and freeze your report. You can dispute the inquiry.

1. There's no such thing as deleting Experian. It's a credit bureau, and it's going to monitor your credit history whether you like it or not.
2. I know of no reason why Experian would give you an email telling you that you were denied for a credit application. That sounds fishy to me.
3. If there is a credit inquiry in your Experian report which is not genuine, you should dispute it. IMHO the best way to dispute it is by snail mail, unless you have an Experian account, in which case you can dispute it online.
Be careful. It's possible there has been a fraud or identity theft.
It's possible the email you believe came from Experian may be fraudulent, as Experian doesn't send people emails telling them their credit application has been denied.

So, did the email claim that your EX dropped 17pts, or did you confirm this against real FICO scores?

1. Are you sure it was an email? If so, can you be certain the actual return address was experian.com?
2. It doesn't say you applied for a loan, it says you checked what your rate would be.
3. If you didn't check your rate on experian.com, you should immediately change your experian.com password.
4. If you did check your rate on experian.com, I doubt there is any connection between that and your score change.
5. From what you say about the scores, the score change was 13, not 17, points.

That link goes to Upgrade, a loan issuer partner of Experian. Experian acknowledges sharing it's member data with business partners.
Possibly, some loan seeker on the Experian site entered their last four-digit SNN, which by weird luck matched yours or was transposed. After no success, Experian sent an automated-message to your email on file.
Where are you seeing the score drop? If this is a Vantage score, then I'd ignore it.
I don't think the experian rate quote feature pulls any hard checks, it just looks at companies you may qualify for and approximate rates, then you have to contact individual companies if interested to apply through them and then get hard pull. Have you checked your actual credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com to verify a new hard pull? The drop in score may be something completely unrelated.
I don't think it was upgrade as they said the same thing as ya'll did. We do not do a hard check and it was denied because the application was not completed. That makes sense, i always do the beginning of applications to test my borrowing power, but apparently upgrade counts any attempt at borrowing as a application, but as I said earlier, they said they were never hard checks.
However the nice girl gave me some hints although she is not allowed to discuss customer's credit. She said something about a default and I quickly remembered that I took a Lowe's card for free deliveries when you use the account. I've had the card fr a year and never used it, but I did use it a couple months ago. Then I got a letter fron Sychrony saying the account was closed due to late payment. Turned out it took awhile to set up account and my payment was made 4 days late. I called Sychrony who promised to review the account and a week later the account was reopened. I know this was not Lowes fault but I'm 70 years old, been in construction since 70. But for all those years I refused to get a Lowes account because they are a massively confused bunch. I wonder if just being around Lowes is borking Sychrony....it's a thought.
A week later I recieved a fluffy letter from Sychrony saying we're sorry and I just muttered idiots and let it go. I eventually called Sychrony and asked if they remembered to take the negative off my credit and they said it was automatic. I said something about the idiot that closed the account and the dude told me not to worry, when something is overturned the employee gets called on the mat and worked over by the company, tar and feathers or something like that. That was good enough for me, I've gotten hot tar on me before and it's a **bleep** to get off!
For some reasons it takes weeks for good things to get posted but only hours for negatives. I just have to stay the course and it will be removed....I hope

You should also get all 3 of your free credit reports from https://www.annualcreditreport.com/
You can get them as often as weekly. These are your complete credit reports that also include "soft pulls"
