For me, because I want to be able to talk to a banker when I'm asking for something at times. It's why I suggest finding local CU's in addition to the national remote one, I don't discount face-to-face interaction even though I have plenty of experience on the phone from my old customer service / tech support days and usually don't have an issue with talking to remote reps in the rare instance I need to.
That and because I operate under the relationship theory, and as such I double-down on some things... namely, Chase business products are pretty stellar for that side of my financial life, and their personal products are excellent too, whereas CU's I may get one, but not likely the business side... so I leave my personal liquid funds in a Chase depository account and then shuffle money to the various CU's / other institutions as needed.
That said, CU's are aware of this and are offering higher rates for deposit accounts with direct deposit and other things, so I may re-evaluate that going forward, but an additional percent on my slush fund isn't likely going to make much difference to me in the mid-term and long-term I should be doing smarter things with my money.

Actually, The reason I said I wouldn't is because I live in California, I live no where near a branch... Just ATM's at random locations. Not worth it for me.
