Covid rent assistance

Asking for my sister

My roommate wants to apply to get the Covid rental assistance because she has no income right now, the lease is on my name so she needs to put in my info, Ss etc and she needs to enter my income as low so she will lower it to 45k. Just wondering if this will affect my credit or give me issues with being approved for leasing in the future?

If you're asking for your sister, what does your income have to do with it? If your name is on the lease, but your sister and her roommate are actually living there....well, I don't know. I'm not up on stuff like that.

Sorry, I have no idea about your actual questions, but I do know that committing fraud is never a good idea. You might want to advise the roommate that she either needs to be honest about the income reported, or forget about it. COVID-19 relief fraud has been rampant, and the authorities are zealously going after people who've committed it.

Re: Covid rent assistance

So yea I am not involved Whatsoever it's my sister and her friend I asked the question for
but yes I told  her that it's not legal  she didn't know she had no clue  I guess and she will back off of it from asking for the assistant for her roommate

Re: Covid rent assistance

Agree with the above, I'd be very wary about letting someone else enter my info like this.

If someone's name isn't on a lease then I don't think they'd qualify for assistance as they are not legally obligated to pay rent.

Re: Covid rent assistance

Perhaps consider writing a sub lease to your sister where you are the landlord and she is the tenant/obligator. Then, she'll have her own lease obligation. I don't think that would be fraudulent but agree if you do it or use your info for her benefit, that would not be good.

So your room mate wants to apply for rental assistance. Which means she lives with you. The lease is in your name. So your the responsible party to pay the rent not her. This wont pass the smell test. You dont want to go there. Just have her apply for unemployment due to no income. Or keep a running tab and she can pay you back when she starts to work again. This is the right thing to do.

Re: Covid rent assistance

So, you would have been okay with this as long as your credit isn't affected?
