Credit Fraud Alert?

This may need to go under student loans, but I figure people in here may have more experiences with Fraud Alerts.

Will having a fraud alert on my CRAs effect me from getting a student loan even if I have a co-signer?

Re: Credit Fraud Alert?

It is still possible to get a loan, but the lender will have to jump through more hoops to verify who you are. If you are working directly with a loan officer, that LO will know how to help.

Re: Credit Fraud Alert?

I'm applying online...probably though Wells Fargo and will have a co-signer. Just wondering how much my credit score is gonna factor in since it's under a fraud alert and my score has plummeted.

Your score does not change because of a FA. Something happened to your CRs (e.g. an account was removed/added) to cause the score change. Before apping for a car, I would pull all 3 reports (if a FA is on one, it is likely on all three) to see if there are anything out of place.

Re: Credit Fraud Alert?

I had planned on getting student loans myself but when I applied I was denied due to BK, and multiple derogs, public records, COs, collections so I pulled all my reports.

Sorry for being so vague before but here's what has happened...Somehow my TU and EX credit reports have been merged with my father's who has a BK in '02 and '07, a home foreclosure, multiple credit card included in BK's, outstanding balances, over 50 medical collections totalling $20,000. I have no ability to contact my father and haven't seen him for more than a few hours over the past few years. Needless to say my scores have tanked I've never seen a score so low!

I have contacted both CRA's and notified them of this error and they stated 45-60 days to see any correction. They have put an alert on my account I was told and I'm not sure if they put a freeze or not.

I'm curious if this is gonna effect my ability to get a student loan even with a co-signer, which I desperatly need ASAP. I'm kinda at a loss of what to do at this point, don't wanna waste time if having a co-signer still will not help.

Again I'm not working with a loan officer I plan on filling out all the necessary paperwork online. I live in NC and not many banks here are offering private student loans at the current time. BB&T, Wachovia, Bank of America, 5/3 Bank and First Citizens are our major banks in the area.
