Credit Karma vs. MyFICO updates

I know your credit score for Credit Karma is not accurate but they do provide accurate information on updates/alerts. How soon does MyFICO normally update after you get your update from Credit Karma? I always get Credit Karma updates first.

Re: Credit Karma vs. MyFICO updates

It's kind of difficult to answer that question since CK only updates every 7 days.  So the CB may have reported on the 5th for example but due to your last CK update being the 1st, you will not have new data until the 8th, that could have occurred before that. And yes, myFICO may not have provided an alert before the "8th".

With that said, myFICO is well known to be late with providing alerts.  Some of this is not explainable in my opinion but most of it is since myFICO only provides alerts based on what they deem as "alertable" events.  That's things life balance changes, inquiries, new account.  Actually a score change which we all want to know, may not update when it happens if an "alertable" event does not also occur.  The alertable event causes the pull of all of your data at that time and should a score change occurred on or before the "balance change" alert, you may see a score change accompanied with the alert that... " Total balance on XX card decreased by..."    Not sure if myFICO identifies what is considered an alertable event but they note alertable events trigger an update/alert.

TU is the only CB that I know that provides updates due to score change only (may be age related but that is not an alertable event).  I've seen my EX score change a day to weeks before I get an alert from myFICO since I currently have both subscriptions.  With myFICO only EQ allows you to set an alert if a certain score is reached or exceeded.

But none of this defines when the lender actually reported the information to the CB as each CMS may provide that information at any time.

Many feel that you will get a balance change, inq, etc alert on myFICO for EX sooner than the other 2 bureaus.  That has been my experience since I can see in real time due to my EX subscription.  TU is also well known to be considered the latest, and very late with myFICO updates.  But some may have different experiences.

Re: Credit Karma vs. MyFICO updates

Credit Karma will generate real time alerts for certain activities like new accounts and inquiries. I tried myFICO for a month and my Experian, WalletHub, CK combination was always alerting me of changes before myFICO did. The thing with myFICO is alerts are generated based on scoring events so if something happened that didn't change your score, you may not get an alert at all.

since you have a subscription with both, do you prefer one over the other?  EQ over My Fico?  I am just catching on that MyFico is pretty slow

For regular monitoring I like the EX subscription more.  It provides updates daily and timely as far as I can see.  It also provides other EX scores regularly:  MTG 2, Auto 2 and 8, Bankcard 2, 3 and 8.  You also get a monthly updated Classic 8 for all 3 bureaus.  EQ and TU do not provide FICO scores so their service is not of interest to me.  I still have the myFICO subscription because I like to learn about how all of my scores are impacted monthly.  I've had both for a couple of years now and will soon be dropping myFICO because I'm pretty much past anything significant occurring with my profile and no expected need for any apps.  Also because it's not cheap and I really don't need it right now.  EX will suffice for me and my bit of an obsession with watching scores and score changes.Smiley Wink

As far as alerts, in addition to myFICO delays, I don't get them regularly from EX, CK or WalletHub when I know things have changed.  One month I may get an alert from CK or WalletHub about a balance change and then not get any for several months when there are balance changes monthly with certain accounts.  Haven't been able to figure out the rhyme or reason with them but with EX I can check for changes daily anyway.  I'm sure they all have their own set of alertable events.

I found more value in myFICO when I was rebuilding and waiting for age related factors, lates falling off etc.  But you can always do a one time purchase when needed instead of having a monthly subscription for around the same expense of 2 months of paying for a subscription.  You just won't receive the so called "regular" alerts when they supposedly happen.

Re: Credit Karma vs. MyFICO updates

like said already, definintely like EX services, looks like my credit file updated almost instantly when the creditor reported,  I don't think I am going to carry both EX and Fico just EX,   love this forum of great knowledge and insight!
