Credit Report Errors?

I just looked (here @ site) at Equifax listing of my "accounts."   At least 1/2 (revolving) shouldn't be there -- either paid and closed long ago, or inaccurate $ balances (higher than current/recent).

Is it only up to the creditor companies to advise status to Equifax and other agencies?!

Do I now have to contact all the companies which should not be included in my credit report?

I'd like to receive a report that is current and correct, so assume I'll also have to write to Equifax and list all inaccuracies before requesting a credit report.

I haven't (yet) in 2009 requested credit reports from any of the Big 3.

You need to go here: www.annualcreditreport.com to get all your current credit reports for free. Then you can see exactly what (if anything) needs to be corrected.

Re: Credit Report Errors?

Old closed accounts help your credit history. They are supposed to remain on your reports for ten years after they are closed. Get your paper reports and carefully read each entry. The balances are meaningless if they say paid as agreed never late etc. Don't contact anyone and do not dispute any tradeline that is positive. Read the newbie section here before you damage your reports.
