Credit for housing application

Will an apartment leasing company reject my application in California if I am currently leasing another home in Texas?

I currently have a lease in Texas with 9 months remaining and a subletter paying for the remainder of this lease. I am looking to move to California and am worried that with the two apartments, my ability to pay (sum of two apartments' rent vs income) will be called into question. Does this affect my credit score? Will California be able to see my Texas housing records?

Rental accounts in the vast majority of cases do not report to the credit reporting agencies so it's unlikely that the apartment complex in California will be able to see anything in regard to your Texas lease nless you have defaulted on the lease.  The CA people will do an inquiry on your credit which may or not affect temporarily affect your score but it wont do anything siginificant to your score.

Re: Credit for housing application

I have lived in VA for eons and the last two times I moved and rented an apartment, the property managers used tenant screening companies. The most recent one was SafeRent, which has a huge database dedicated to property managers for leasing apts. From the negative reviews on this company, I'm happy that my "everything" was squeaky clean! The prior company -- I can't remember the exact name (something like Natl Rental Assoc) -- came back that I owed an apt from 2006 $200 because they had to repaint my apt. I recalled painting the apt but didn't recall getting an invoice. I paid the property manager the $200 and it was immediately removed from the database. So, it's no longer just about pulling a credit report for renting an apt. Property Managers now have a rental database setup just for leasing their properties.
