Credit-friendly cell phone companies?

I will be moving back to the states soon (well, eventually) and I will need to get a cell phone.  I plan on being an angelic customer and I will pay my bills on time, but I'd rather not give my business to an evil cell phone provider.

I have heard horror stories about Verizon.  Is there a friendly company?

Re: Credit-friendly cell phone companies?

I've been using AT & T for several years now, never an issue. Verizon is my land line provider at home - never an issue with them, either. But, their DSL leaves much to be desired.

Re: Credit-friendly cell phone companies?

As you will find, people have problems with all the different service providers.  That being said I had VZW and worked for them.  The service when I had them was terrible and they overbilled me and it took six mths (paid to keep it off my CRs) to get my money back from them.  When I worked for them you would not believe the messes I had to unravel for customers ( I was one of the good CSR) I actually followed up to make sure all things were done correctly.

Now we are ATT ( was cingular) customers since 2000, love them.  Most of the time good service.  Never have I been overcharged and when they put a charge (usually .20-.40) that is not suppose to be on there they remove the charge with one quick call.

Good Luck on finding a cell phone server that works well for you ... Vicki

Re: Credit-friendly cell phone companies?

I used to have AT&T -- and boy-howdy was it EXPENSIVE. It seemed that we were getting charged for the air the wireless "waves" had to travel through (lousy joke, I know)!!

We have T-Mo now and we love'em. DH got approved for 4 lines with the scores in my siggie. Not a single hiccup or problem (at least, not on T-Mo's end -- AT&T got a little spiteful at the end, though).

That being said, typically, AT&T will soft you for service if you already have an account with them (DSL or landline). That's how we were approved for 3 lines (had to pay $150 deposit on the fourth line). And trust me ... my credit was about as bad as bad could be at that time (like it isn't now, LOL!!).

Anywho, best of luck!! Let us know how it goes!! Smiley Happy

I worked for Nextel (and then Sprint when they merged) for 6 years.

Re: Credit-friendly cell phone companies?

I had a Cingular Go-Phone ($$$).  I like my T-Mo with just the basics for about 1/3 the fee.

It ain't just the Go-Phone. A $99/month plan turned into $300 after you take into consideration the extra lines (total of 4), the fees, the taxes, etc. And no, I ain't kiddin'.

With T-Mo, not only are all of our calls to family members and others on the T-Mo network FREE, but we get to choose 5 people each on other plans (or landlines, what-have-you) to call for FREE. Economically, it really just worked out perfectly. And now, we only pay $125/month for all 4 lines.

Plus, we get the family allowances thing (included in the $125 I mentioned above) AND unlimited texting (again, included in the $125). All in all, much, much, much better.

The only thing that sucked was the activation fees ($35/each line). AT&T didn't charge any activation fees for the first 2 lines. Even then, it was only $25/each. But still, I'll take a one-time bill of $240 and then $125 subsequent months, over a small initial bill and $300/month any day of the week!!

And I was considered a "Tier 1" customer, too!! o_O
