Credit inquiries?

I purchased a car in July of 2014. I shopped around to a couple different dealers all within a week, and obviously they all ran my credit. I thought it counts as just one inquiry if you're applying for an auto loan within a week from each other? I now have almost thirty inquiries, and even now I'm still receiving letters in the mail from finance companies, even though I've already had my vehicle for 6 months. Can I dispute these inquiries?

Starting Score: TU 620 (07/10/2012) EQ 617 (07/10/2012)
Current Score: TU 620 (07/10/2012) EQ 617 (07/10/2012)
Goal Score: 750

Any auto inquiries within a 2 week period are generally counted as one for FICO scoring purposes but they will still show up as individual inquiries. There is nothing you can dispute and most companies will see that you were looking for a vehicle and discard the quantity.  Still a reason to try to limit the number of places you look to finance a vehicle.

Re: Credit inquiries?

They do hurt your score regardless what anyone says. Maybe not for FICO but for regular credot scoring it sure does. The Dbags at the dealership i didnt buy my car from sent me to 18 banks, some of which pulled for than one bureau report. My bank would not touch me due to "to many inquiries". I told them I was auto shopping and they were all the same day they said it does not matter.

I called the bureaus to dispute the # of inquiries because I never approved that many. They said sorry nothing I can do. They said everyone hurts your score its just some banks can overlook the # but if it drops your score below a certain threshold you may be out of gas on the loan department.

FICO is "regular credit scoring".

That's not a scoring issue.  That's too many inquiries for the creditor.  It's not just about score.

Re: Credit inquiries?

Thank you takshi74 for your thorough response to the OP.

It is a scoring issue when inquiries drop your score thus changing loan terms and interest rates. They go hand and hand.
