Credit reports & capital one

So here’s my dilemma back in Dec 2019 I paid off my charge off capital one account. I did take a settlement offer. I’m going to be buying a home soon (hopefully) and want this information updated on my account. I have sent all 3 credit bureaus a letter from capital one stating my account has been paid. (I have disputed items before and things get changed really quick so I thought once I sent this info in it would change and update). All 3 bureaus obviously has to check with capital one to see if this is correct. NONE of them will change the info because they say the creditors says the information on my report is correct. Its telling me I have past due balance of $113. I have filed a claim with CFPB and they did nothing. I attached all the info and letters saying my account was paid. Capital onesent a letter saying they were reporting it accurately. Does the CFPB or the Credit Bureaus not look at what I’ve sent in as proof that Capital one is wrong????  CFPB did nothing i never heard a word from them.  They are just going by what Capital one tells them. Also I see experian has marked my account negatively in January 2020 (because it looks like I still owe them money), but it was paid in December. I don’t even know what do anymore. Any one have any ideas?

Re: Credit reports & capital one

Capital one reports paid COs and settlements in two steps
First reporting indicates that you paid, but it still shows remaining balance
In the following month, they report zero balance with annotation "paid, settled for less"
If you paid it in December, depending on timing, reporting should be completed by February or March.

So, dont jump any guns, you can complicate this for no reason.
A lot of lenders report this way, it's not inaccurate per se.

Re: Credit reports & capital one

thats fine if need to wait  a month or 2 but why should i still get a Negative remark on my experian account for Jan 2020 when it was paid in 2019.  Thats what's making me mad....Because Captial one wont tell them its paid experian still thinks i have a balance and i'm past due.  (captial one has been reporting my account since it was a charge off in Feb of 2018 every month they update it with a CO or N on all 3 bureaus.  So far Trans & Equifax have not updated this but i'm afraid  they will.

Re: Credit reports & capital one

It's a charge off. It remained unpaid for a long time. It's not a negative remark that's being placed, it's update to a negative account that's not fully reflecting last step.
That's coming next.
Think about it this way...that account remained unpaid for a long time. Capital One will only take two months to complete the process.
