Ran one of those free reports and it showed 597 and had one ran at my dealership and it showed 490.Why such a BIG jump between reports?I would like to get/use a accurate number to start on as I try to improve my scores.I see people on here posting their EX and TU scores, how can I get those for free? Thanks for any help.
The free reports from annual credit report or another free site?
The only place you can get a FICO score is here, on myFICO, Equifax.com (ask specifically for a FICO) and Transunioncs.com.
A car dealership will probably be using an Auto Enhanced Score.

Where did you run your free report? Do you know what kind of score it gives? There are various flavors out there.
The banks look at FICO scores, so that's what you want to be looking at as well. Someone posted above how/where you can get true FICO scores for Equifax and TransUnion. Consumers can't buy their Experian scores any longer.
When you are buying a vehicle they look at Auto Enhanced Scores most of the time. They are FICO scores but they are computated differently.
I too have heard of car dealerships using a different score, but my equifax scoreon this site is 681. I also get my scores thru AMEX and they have my Equifax score as 691. Is it because they use a different score and not fico. Help please. I'm in the process of purchasing my first home. Thanks for any help.
No, it is a FICO score. It varies by the CRA that furnishes it.
More weight is paid to past automotive credit history in the computation of these scores and I think installment loans/history will play a little heavier in the scores.
