Critique my letter please!

This letter is to HSBC for reporting two similar accounts, when in fact there was only one auto account that was had with them, but for some reason they are reporting twice only on Experian!

Thanks for your help!

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is being written to inform you that HSBC has been reporting two auto accounts to the credit bureaus! I have disputed them both as duplicate accounts and both came back verified. The accounts have very similar account numbers, and I assume the account that does not match my records was placed by mistake.

I have never had two auto accounts with HSBC, and therefore you have been reporting inaccurate information to the credit bureaus! I am attaching a copy from my Experian credit report so that you can get a better understanding of what needs to be corrected!

Only one of these accounts should be reported to the credit bureaus and according to my records it should be account number XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. If you can not correct this matter I would like to see what sort of records you have for the alleged accounts.

Under the new FACTA laws you are required to conduct and investigation and I will request that this be done in the event of HSBC not being able to resolve my issue!

Re: Critique my letter please!

EDIT your acct number!!! (if real)

Your letter looks great. However, to be technical, FACTA doesn't apply here. It may apply if this letter were going to the CRAs (don't do that). FACTA covers ID theft, FAs, and privacy related matters. It also created annualcreditreport.com and called for more privacy on CC receipts and CR pulls. It made it easier to place a FA on one report and made it mandatory that it gets transferred to all reports. It also amended the FCRA.

But the average CSR opening you letter would have no clue what FACTA even is. They might even think you had a typo with "FACT". I predict it would be fixed quickly.

Re: Critique my letter please!

Actually, in the event that they're posting someone else's account to his CR, FACTA law certainly would apply because that's a privacy violation for him to have access to someone else's account!

But the letter looks pretty good. Make sure you include the pages of your EX report that show both accounts reporting, and highlight it so the CSR who looks at it can follow the pretty colors and figure it out. I'd also write "CORRECT" and "NOT MINE" in big black or red letters beside each account.

I agree with mrscharlie's edits - particularly the elimination of all the exclamation points. It makes the letter much more professional.

I wrote beside what correct and whats not but i didnt put it in RED which is a good idea so that it sticks out like a sore thumb! All copies are included as well, thanks Ivy!
