Date reported question on EQ report.

Sorry if this has been answered already. I did a search and didn't see this exact question.

I have 2 old medical collections from 2004 that were in dispute and I never paid. The date assigned is Oct.1 2004 on my report. Well, I just received a denial for a credit card from Chase so I called the recon number and spoke with a rep. I explained that I knew I have some very old collections but they were in dispute and are 6 years ago. She says that they come up as recent collections, from April of 2010! So I pulled my EQ report and notice on both collections that they do list date assigned correctly but then they also list "Date Reported" as April 1, 2010. Is this correct? The lender is interpreting this as a recent collection. Are they just not doing their job correctly or is EQ not reporting correctly? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Date reported question on EQ report.

What is Equifax reporting as the date opened ?  Is it in 2004 ?

Re: Date reported question on EQ report.

Yes, they are. It seems this is still on target to drop off in 2011 but it's just troubling that Chase made a credit decision based on thinking this was a recent collection. It was my understanding that they would see that this is a very old collection regardless of the CA changing the date reported.

Re: Date reported question on EQ report.

They probably updated it and it makes it look like a new collection.  It is legal, though frustrating.
