I have a co worker that has about 8 or 10 credit cards. Several of the cards she has not used in a LONG time and wants to cancel them. She went to purchase a car and the salesman told her the number of cards counted against her and she should DEACTIVATE the unused cards. He warned her that closing the cards was not a good idea and she should be sure to request the cards be deactivated with the company. She really doesnt want the cards but doesnt want to cancel them. Do you have any suggestions? What does deactivating the card do for her?
