Look for some advice here. I just received an email from a debt consolidation company that I talked to and said I was not interested after they pulled a switch on me. I said I was not interested and no thanks on further communication. This was several weeks ago.
I just received an email with a table that has every credit card I have, bank, full credit card number, name, and amount! Surely this has to be illegal. I verified and every single credit card number I have is in that email!! **bleep**?? What are my options here?
I called them and ask why they did that and they said I requested a plan to consolidate and to email me. I did not request this and I specifically asked why would you send out someones entire list of credit card numbers?? He kept saying I requested it. This is after I asked for the legal department right off the bat.
What can I do?
I think this is beyond us. Lawyer up.
I would just stay on top of my accounts and credit reports and make sure there is no fraud.
It was a dumb move on their part, but I don't think you're going to get anything other than a headache out of making a lot of noise about it.
I'd visit their website incognito and see if maybe you already DID in fact approve them to do this. Chances are it's in the fine print.
