Debt validation for paid collections

I've recently paid off a number of collections.  Can you still use DV with paid collections?  The company that had the medical collections refuses to delete them.  Can you dispute with the orignal creditor, which is a hospital, or do you have to use the collection agency?

Re: Debt validation for paid collections

I;ve asked this question a hundred times.  I didn't know know about DV and I paid everything off mine and my DH credit.  I'm wondering if we can formulate a letter that says even though we paid it was not acceptance of the debt, just to not have the hassle.

I've been thinking if we send a DV they already have their money and they won't take the time to come up with that response so it should get removed.

Re: Debt validation for paid collections

Some people in here have reported success in removing a paid CA via a DV. Often the CA won't take the time or expense in responding to the DV letter. It is easier for them to delete.

Another option is to send a GW.

Re: Debt validation for paid collections

Sending a DV to a CA or OC after you have paid them isn't going to change anything. You would have to send them a GW if you want them to remove the item.   Or you would have to file a dispute with the CRA and hope the CA or OC doesn't validate.

I'm going to try it I'll let you know how it goes.  I'm haivng my attorney send them out for me though.  They might take his letter a little more seriously than mine...

Re: Debt validation for paid collections

Forgot to add...in searching for these, I did find where someone got a delete by calling the OC and asked them to call the CA to delete and it worked. It was for a medical CA.

Re: Debt validation for paid collections

I have heard of people sending a DV to a CA after they had paid BUT it was paid several years before.

What was the DOFD/DOLA    the date of service?   It will drop approx 7 years from that date.

Does it show paid on your CR?
