My brother applied for a credit card at a credit union on line and went to review. He called and they said it was declined due to fraud? He does not have a fraud alert on his Equifax or any CRA.
They said they are investigating and to call back tomorrow.
What could cause being declined due to fraud?
Did he have any other accounts or business with the credit union for which any fraud issues were raised, and thus the issue arose from their records as opposed to a pull of his credit report?

Negative. He applied for the first time with Langley. No other accounts with them.
He has great scores, clean files and no fraud alert on Equifax. He called and asked to be sure.
He can't understand why they are saying fraud.
When he applied he even took a picture of the back of his license as they suggested to pre fill the application. Address on license matches address on credit reports as well.
I think the bank is full of it personally.
Brother called back today. They claimed because Equifax had a security freeze it got flagged for fraud. Thing is, they didn't know there was a security freeze because brother lifted it before applying.
Was approved for select visa for 15k at 8.25%.

Usually they will do a follow up and ask a couple of questions for any freeze, the questions can be about previous address, relatives, accounts and our personal information. I had an issue with lexis nexus reporting inaccuracies with different addresses and information due to common name. At the end of the day I would recommend asking who they verify their information through.
Not sure what your talking about regarding relatives and them doing a follow up. He did the followup and was approved, no questions asked.
