Deleting Old Address Will Also Delete Positive TL?

Hello all..I have quite a few old addresses on my CR's and I want to remove them. However I was told that removing old addresses would also remove the positive TL' s that are attatched to them.Is that correct? If I get the CRA's to delete the old adresses would the TL's also be deleted. Thanks for any response..

Re: Deleting Old Address Will Also Delete Positive TL?

The way it has worked with my credit reports -

Delete old address and it says off UNLESS there is a tradeline that is still updating with that old address.   Which can happen.  Which does happen.

IF the old tradeline is not currently updating on the CR, then no worries.  The tradeline stays on until the CB ages it off.   Old address stays off.

And the third scenario is a CA can put a new collection on your CR and give your old address.  Then it's back on there.  Smiley Sad

On a slightly different note - I continually dispute "incorrect" name spellings, addresses, and employment information that end up on the report becuase someone made a mistake when they pulled credit.  And I make sure all of the infomation is the same when I apply for credit.

Why do you want to remove old addresses, assuming that they're yours? They're not doing any harm.

Re: Deleting Old Address Will Also Delete Positive TL?

Thank you for the replies..I Mainly want to delete one old address because I lived there at one time with my father,Im a junior, same name, and he used my name before a couple of times for utilities. My credit report actually has his SSN as "other used",which I need to remove also.Im sure he used my SSN for a job when i was about 17 also because he owed the irs for taxes. Not cool at all.But he did it.I never looked at my reports so I didnt ever notice it.He is now deceased but I dont want any association with that 12 year old address so that our names dont get mixed up for anything.I dont want to trigger a fraud alert or anything similar, especially before submitting my tax return so i havent contacted the CRA's about it yet.

Ah, that completely makes sense.

No, you shouldn't lose any TL's if you get it deleted, but it might pop back on, and also, you don't really have any grounds to dispute it, as it did used to be your address.

Anyone else? --since OP did experience ID theft when associated with this address, would he have any grounds to dispute? Even if he (understandably) didn't file a police report or anything?

You would DEFINITELY want to remove the wrong SSN.

I would also look at opting out and possibly freezing reports as well, as the lovely credit bureaus sell reports to collection agencies that are trolling for business.

I'm afraid that you might be playing whack-a-gator with this for a long, long time. Smiley Sad

I will wait until after I file taxes, and receive my return, then have the other SSN removed. Some parents behaviors sometimes will leave you scratching your head Smiley Sad

It's my understanding that even if you opt out CA's  can still get info from your credit report and if they want enter themselves

as the CA trying to collect a debt . ...someone correct me if I'm wrong.
