@Anonymous wrote:So far the streaming service from them seems to be holding price-wise. I'll watch for an increase in the future. And still way cheaper each month than the cable box deal.
My understanding is that the $35 DirectTV Now plan is special pricing when they launched the service and in the future when you sign up it will have a higher cost. However no date has been set for when that will happen. If they are smart it won't happen .
Not sure if it helps (or what the cost) but I just got an email from CBS All Access about streaming the local live NFL games that are on CBS. Not sure what area you are in or who you support but worth a look. I'd provide a link but it automatically logs me in so just go to cbs.com and click on "more" then "cbs sports" and it should get you there.
FYI, the CBS All Access is $5.99/month (or $60/year). Not sure if the NFL is extra or not.

It happened back in January, that deal called the big package, is $60 now.
They've got 4 packages available: 60+ channels for $35; 80+ channels for $50; 100+ channels for $60; and 120+ channels for $70. Add-ons can include HBO, Cinemax or Starz for $5/month each. Apparently they offer discounts to current ATT phone subscribers (with restrictions, of course).

I used to have internet at home but that started feeling ridiculous at $65/month and I canceled it.
I have unlimited data and tethering on my phone for $40/month. I get by on that and books
I thought of that at one time but with streaming it wouldn't work for me. Cell companies throttle service once you get to 22GB to 30GB, depending on the provider. Unlimited in name only. I do like my books though..

The thing with Directv Now is if you like your sports. You really have to get the $60 package. They need to lower that..

Yup, same here: between HD streaming and the xbox my usage averages at about 350 GB/mo so tethering just wouldn't work.

I wish I couple keep mine to 350GB/month. If I'm lucky I might stay under under 1TB.
True, to watch NHL, NFL, etc. you would need the bigger package. I only watch baseball and have mlbtv.com for that, which I need anyway to watch the Red Sox in South Carolina. The rest of the sports I don't care about.

I'm a few days into a 1 month free trial with the DirecTV Now $35 package with HBO. I'm in a rural area where my best option for internet is Wi-Max, long range wireless. Speedtest.net has me at just over 4mbps down. With DirecTV Now live TV channels works fine with that speed, but any on demand channels/movies buffer so badly I gave up. I'm surprised Now only gives you 4-5 live channels - MSNBC, ESPN & a few news channels. The past few years I've used Sling's $20/mo. package just for ESPN for MNF & better college football games, and as I recall most channels are live TV. I'll be cancelling Now at the end of the free trial and go with Sling to supplement my broadcast TV by antenna.
And you're right, $60/mo. for steaming TV is way too much, that's not much less than cable/satellite with much better quality & much easier to use.
