Re: Dispute lowers your credit score?

The disputed amount would not affect my credit utilization because my available credit amount is rather high and the amount is relatively small.  But I do see how that could affect some people as you mention, in that scenario.

Re: Dispute lowers your credit score?

When you dispute a merchants charge some CC issuers will report such to the CRAs, what this does is remove certain aspects of the TL from Fico score calculations until the dispute is resolved. Its the same if you dispute an OC account with the CRA for incorrect info, while its in dispute certain aspects are removed from Fico scoring.

Re: Dispute lowers your credit score?

@gdale6 Thank you for dropping this knowledge! I had no idea this could happen during a dispute over a transaction with a creditor.

I learn something new everyday from these forums.

@silvius That might explain what you are noticing. Your score should rebound after the dispute is resolved.

Re: Dispute lowers your credit score?

Yes, agreed.  It is like that particular trade line temporarily doesn't exist while the dispute is active.  That would make sense especially since it is my only credit card (I have other credit lines like a mortgage, etc).

Thanks to all
