Dispute with Equifax... need some guidance

I apologize if this is in the wrong folder..but... I just paid to pull my scores from here.. so I got a TU and an EQ.  Here is my issue.. My name and Birthday are wrong on the EQ report.  I've disputed this in the past, but they want me to FAX or MAIL my drivers license, my birth certificate and mypassport information. My issue is that is ripe for identity theft if I send all that via a fax!    Does anyone have any other ideas of how I can prove myself as being me without faxing my documents?  or is it truly secure that I can fax all those things to them?  Seems like I'm sending my history to a black hole . . .

Just dial carefully and you should be fine.  As long as you trust the company that gave you the fax number to dial, and you make sure that's the number you actually fax the information to, I would trust it over trying to send the same information UPS, FedEx, or USPS.  Most businesses like this don't have actual fax machines anymore, so there's not much chance of your information rolling off a printer and into the floor at the other end.  Usually these are computerized fax reception systems that automatically and securely route a digital copy of your fax to the appropriate person or department for processing.

I am very protective of my information, but I would have no problems faxing this to a credit bureau.
