Disputed and "Verified". What to do now?

I had an old Merrick Bank account that went into chargeoff.  It was an account that I applied for, but never used (cut the card up) and me being young and stupid I didn't demand written proof when I called up to cancel the card (I didn't want it after I figured out that the Annual Fee, Maintance Fee, Membership Fee, etc. left me with very little credit limit).  Needless to say, they kept the account open and all of their Participation charges got interest tacked on to them and they finally charged the card off.

After fighting with them for years over whether or not I owed this debt, I finally gave up and decided to let the account age off my report (It was already way past the SOL in my state).  I opened the account in 04/2001.  The DOFD should have been 05/2001.  It has already fallen of my Transunion report and I disputed with Experian and they said that it will remain on my report until 05/2008.  However, I disputed with Equifax and it came back as verified and is now saying that the date of last payment on the account was 08/2001 and the DOFD was 09/2001.  I know this is 100% incorrect because I NEVER made a payment on that account.

What is my next course of action with Equifax?  Can I send them a copy of my results with Experian as proof that the information they have is incorrect?  I know the extra months don't seem like that big of a deal, but this is the only negative on my reports aside from a 4 year old paid tax lien and I'm looking to qualify for a mortgage this summer.  It doesn't seem fair that they can just change the dates any old time they want.   Any help that you guys can provide is greatly appreciated!!!!

By law, they can stay up to 7 to 7.5 years which would take it up to 10/2008. EQ doesn't care what EX did. It would be a waste of time.

EQ actually uses DOLA.
I would dispute again on May 1 stating that it has past CRTP and see what happens there. How did you dispute it before?

As llecs said, it can actually remain for 7.5 years from DOFD. Reason is that the 7 year CRTP begins on day 181 past DOFD. So, take DOFD + 180 days +7 years = removal date.

Do you have a copy of your old CR before you disputed that shows DOFD or when it is to be removed?

If you do, wait until May is nearly over and if it hasn't fell off, send a copy of your old credit report from THAT CRA showing that the DOFD was changed and it should fall off. They may agree, they may not. Worst case scenario, it falls off November 2008.
