No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I was trying to open the Affinity FCU checking account and it said credit card funding but when I got to that page to find that out I went on the phone with a few of my creditors to see if it would code as a cash advance. Discover said it most likely would, Capital One said yes and Mercury doesn't even allow that. I would have been on hold for 8 mins with Chase to find out so I thought I would just ask that here. I can go back to the page. I was just trying to get extra cashback that way but definitely don't want to pay any cash advance fees. Not a big deal if it codes as a cash advance but would like to know. Under the doctorofcredit it says cc funding codes as a purchase under Chase Sapphire and Business Ink Unlimited but nothing about a Freedom Flex card. Anybody know?
asking the card issuer probably isn't going to help you because you don't know how the bank you're trying to fund will code it, some code it as hard always cash advance (langley FCU, wise), some eat the fees and never? code it as a CA (US Bank)
as for Affinity, I'm going say you're probably fine
Well I entered it using the Chase Freedom Flex for a small amount of $5 and it coded as a sale! So with that DP that concludes I could use it to fund other bank accounts down the road (no cash advance fees). Only made 5 cents with 1% cashback but with such a small $500 limit the most I would have gotten out of that would have been $5. All 3 Affinity Cash Back debit accounts were approved! With all 3 I can get 1% cashback on the credit card payments that accept debit or PayPal Bill Pay up to $3000 per month.

You shouldn't do it. It's pointless. It's not like you need a large amount of money to open a checking account.
And it's not like the pennies worth of rewards you might get are worth taking the risk. Those credit unions which allow the initial deposit by credit card inevitably limit it to a small amount.
One tactic is to request the card's cash advance limit be reduced. When funding a bank account, try an amount higher than the reduced cash advance limit; for example, funding the bank account with $150 if the cash advance limit is $100. If the bank receiving the funds codes the transaction as a cash advance, the transaction will be declined because it is over the limit; otherwise, the transaction might go through as a purchase. If the receiving bank only codes as cash advances, the transaction will be declined.
Some banks will let you reduce the cash advance limit to zero; Chase has a minimum of $100. Once lowered, Barclays will not allow the limit to be increased (unless this policy has changed).
