Re: Dont know how to start credit score at all

I'm not sure but I'd assume your best bet from the very start would be to open a credit card, I think that's how most people get started (and end up ruined later haha).  I don't know if being new to the country has any effect on what cards you can get though.  My first card was from Capital One right at 18 - there were the beginning (and the end!) of my credit haha but that's just because I was irresponsible in my payments.

You need to start gaining some sort of credit.  Take out a loan, get a credit card (secured or unsecured), purchase a home, puchase a car.......something that you have to make monthly payments on.

Re: Dont know how to start credit score at all

What bank are you with? If you don't currently have a checking account, sign up for one at a bank or credit union. Then see what CC's they offer, if you have no credit you may need to start out with a secured card, then after 6 months to a year or so of responsibility they may upgrade you to an unsecured card. Are you considering going to school? That's what started my credit, a student loan. And, you do not need to pay it while you are in school.. but only take out what you need, and can afford to pay back later.

Do a quick search on these forums for rebuilder CC, go to the credit cards section- there is PLENTY of info to help you out there as well.

There are places such as Crown Jewelers who dont pull a credit report, but will report to all three CRAs once you purchase something-- its a line of credit good for only their store, I recieved a 1500 limit, bought something for 40.00 and now it has a 0 balance, I will close it after its done its job of helping me rebuild.    Look into this before applying for it, its not a consumer credit card, and can ONLY be used at its store, or website.

There are also other GREAT secured cards to apply for that- as people have said- will upgrade you to an unsecured rather quickly. Just do some searching and you will be truely amazed at what all the MYFICO geniueses know! Smiley Wink
