Duplicate Account on TU

Long story short, I have been watching my credit scores recently because we are getting ready to apply for a mortgage. Last month I paid off a credit card to the tune of about $11,000. After doing so my Experian has shot up to 819, Equifax went to 826 and Transunion went from 722 all the way up to 725.

In trying to figure out what is wrong I noticed that the credit account is shown twice under Transunion. One shows the new low balance and the other shows the old high balance. I pulled the report from Transunions site and it shows one account reporting all the way up until 9/15. This is the one that shows the old high balance. The other account shows reporting from 10/15-11/15 and shows the new correct low balance.

I went ahead and disputed both accounts with Transunion and tried to explain things in the 250 character limit explanation boxes. How long should this take for Transunion to fix this? Is there anything else I can do or should do?

TIA

Re: Duplicate Account on TU

I'm currently having a similar problem with TU. They are suddenly reporting my USAA Amex account twice - one entry shows my old credit limit of $1K, and one entry shows my new credit limit of $2K. I tried disputing it, and the resolution just came back--my credit report still shows both accounts, but with a notation of "New Information" as the resolution results. It's a "satisfactory" account with no lates and current/paid or paying as agreed with about 5% utilization at the moment, so I don't think it's hurting me... but in principle, this reporting is not "correct." I guess I will contact the creditor next to see if they have the ability to remove or delete the duplicate report, and concurrently file a request for reinvestigation, as there is a 5-day limit on submitting that request to the CRA.

Re: Duplicate Account on TU

I also am having the same issue with TU, regarding a USAA account.  I wonder if this is a USAA or TU thing.

Hmmm, that's helpful info. I'm calling USAA tomorrow to try and get this resolved. Will update here after that call.
