Effect of age vs. charge off - FYI

I had one Charge Off on my TU report that wasn't mine. (no other charge offs)

IT was only for $5, but it was my deceased fathers...I was an AU. So I had it removed. Unfortunately - it was the oldest account....at 19 years. I thought removing a charge off would really help my score. Turns out my score actually dropped because my length of credit history had gone down to 12 years. My score dropped only 3 points...but I was bummed. Just goes to show how things factor in and I thought it was interesting enough to share.

Keep on keepin on....

Re: Effect of age vs. charge off - FYI

Thanks for telling us.  The age thing is very important and rather complex - my main problem with EX is my oldest credit line does not report to them, and it has a huge effect on my EX score.  Age is something people tend to forget!
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid
