How are you communicating/disputing with Equifax?
Phone? Web? Fax? USPS Mail?
I would advise sending a formal complaint to the CFPB for lack of CRA compliance with their obligation to accurately maintain and update your credit file under FCRA 607(b).
"FCRA 607(b) Accuracy of report. Whenever a consumer reporting agency prepares a consumer report it shall follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy of the information concerning the individual about whom the report relates."
You can also bring your own civil action against the CRA for violation of section 607(b).
Bottom line is to get the review and opinion of one who has authority to administratively or legally force compliance with their statutory obligation.
I had this exact same problem. Turns out I had a split file, and the creditor was attempting to delete from the wrong file. Call EQ and see if you have a split file.
Equifax is the worst run poorest customer service department of the three. They don’t even try to follow the rules.
Way back when I had an issue with then reporting a credit card that I had (that was closed and paid with a $300 limit) as a foreclosure. Needless to say my young credit took a serious hit. I contact the credit card co multiple times who sent out requests for it to updated multiple times and also sent me copies. Still Equifax would not change it.
Finally I reported them to the FTC (included all my correspondence, etc...oh and this was before the days of CFPB) and 2 weeks letter my report was updated. Prior to that I was seriously considering a cameo on the nightly news by doing something outlandish. ![]()
