Fake FDIC Email

Got word of this today from a reliable source; passing it along:

**********************************************

Beginning last week, a series of fraudulent email messages claiming to come from the FDIC began to circulate on the Internet.

The messages claim that individuals need to check their accounts because their bank has failed.  The link(s) provided appear to go the FDIC web site, but actually resolves to servers hosting malicious software.

The FDIC has additional information for consumers in the “What’s New” section of their home page under the title “E-mail Claiming to Be From the FDIC”http://www.fdic.gov/consumers/consumer/alerts/index.html
