Would having an extended 7-year fraud alert (Only on Equifax) spook my existing lenders in any way? would they think of me more of a risk then if i did not have the extended fraud alert? I do have a freeze too, but they cant see that. I just added it recently, I was also wondering, since Equifax is like talking to a wall, if when adding a Fraud Alert, does it Notify your existing creditors of this activity?? I know if you apply for NEW credit, they have to verify you first but I was wondering if it did anything to already existing established creditors. Any idea?
No. Based on several data breaches in the past years, especially the one that happened to EQ some years ago and 1/3 of the people in this country got impacted, it is highly recommended to place fraud alert till the end of your life. Since the fraud alert cannot be placed permanently, it needs to get renewed every year.
Btw, how do you place fraud alert on EQ? I placed fraud alert on EX by phone some days ago (took only 5min), and it appered automatically on TU in the next day. But, I still did not hear back from EQ.

@AnnaBanana1 Fraud alerts, freezes, locks and the many alerts you can set on your credit card and bank accounts are there to help protect you.
They are not looked upon as negatives by creditors if anything they show the creditors you are conscientious and resposible about your credit.

Now I know how I got mine on Equifax!! Seriously though, Equifax once put one on my report claiming that they got a notification from Transunion.....who promptly confirmed they didn't place one on my report or notify anyone else to place one.
Just call Equifax and tell them to place one.
They once placed a fraud alert on my report and when I called and asked What Gives? they told me they did it because they got a notification from Transunion. I called Transunion and they were like "Huh? You don't have an alert on your report and we didn't
Is a placing a fraud alert on the 3 CB's a good idea? I have all 3 of ours frozen but never considered adding a fraud alert

Yes. In case that somebody wants to open an account by your name, they need to call your phone number that was included in the fraud alert for verification. Locking or freezing would block HP/SP by new lenders but the current lenders still can use SP and the bad guys can use it as an opportunity.

Good information and something i never considered. Just went and added it to all of our CB's and will do it every year now going forward especially as it seems every year we receive 2 or 3 notices from various places informing us that again they cant keep personal data secure and it has been shared with the world for the 101st time. Sorry here's your free year of credit monitoring to stack on the already lifetime supply of free codes you likely have already. smh![]()
