I have a Special Message popping up on my TransUnion report that's causing me some trouble and I wonder if anyone else has run into this:
INPUT CURRENT ADDRESS REPORTED USED IN TRUE NAME OR CREDIT FRAUD
I called TransUnion and they said one of my creditors made this report but can't (won't?) tell me which one and suggested I call them all, which seems like a ridiculous use of my time.
I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back with more information, but I'm also to get a mortgage pre-approval and I think this is causing me some grief in that process.
Do I need to get an attorney to get this sorted out?
Markers like that aren't uncommon, esp if you live in an apt. I think the rep might have breen mistaken when they told you it was one of your lenders. A flag like that would come from the lender that reported the fraudulent application, so it wouldn't be one of your existing lenders unless the fraudster had coincidentally applied at one of your lenders using your address. As far as an attorney goes, there's nothing for them to sort. If someone else used your address in a fraudulent app, then the flag is accurate. I wouldn't expect mortgage lenders would require anything more than verification of your identity and address to proceed with an application.
Did the special message automatically disappear? I have a similar message that TU claim they can't see.
