Just FYI to anyone looking to see how much a closed collection account can affect your score-
I paid off a utility collection last year, which would have fallen off Spring 2013 for $185 or so. No impact to score at all. Just sent a GW letter a couple of weeks back, and it's removed from all three reports as of today. FICO went from 662 to 681
(USAA FAKOs each went up around 30 points)
There is still an open collection that will fall off this Summer ($584, appartment), so I would assume that will have a nice impact as well. Otherwise, no baddies, just inquiries and util dragging me now. Cheers to this forum!!!

Congrats on the score boost ! I would expect a nice FICO boost when your other collection drops off your reports as well...

Congrats!!!
OP, FYI I just had my last collection ($173 medical) fall off of EQ earlier this month. I have a good 50 point increase from about 690 to 746.

Super Congratulations, very good job GWing that CA!
Is that 584 open CA your last derog?
If so, once that falls off, I'm sure you will see a nice score increase, and if it is indeed your last derog on your reports, once that is removed you may be re-bucketed, and put into a new FICO scoring bracket, and if that happens, you will be able to reach scores that are far beyond the scores you can reach now.
I'm Wishing you the Very Best.

Have you tried the GW letter on the other collection?

No. I thought about going the DV route, but it will fall off before I need it to anyway. I would offer to PFD, but I don't agree with the origins of it (bad verbal contract w/ appt. manager, blah blah).
