GW letter to Comcast or Collection agency?

Back in 2002 Comcast sent an overdue bill to CMI Collections. The next month I paid it in full (without the evil roommate's help). I realize that collections stay on your reports for 7 years. I've been trying to GW Comcast and CMI with no response from either. I've been calling Comcast repeatedly today and have been bounced around with their final response telling me that I need to write CMI Collections to remove the collection.
Is that true? If not, does anyone know how I can contact Comcast in regards to this. Feeling a bit discouraged at the moment.

That depends, I was successful last Friday to get Comcast to removed the collection from my CR. Find out if Comcast still owns it or if they sold it to CMI. Try calling Comcast's Executive Customer Services number and talking to someone. Search for my post: Comcast Collection.

I've called Escalations teams and emailed a VP in Customer Relations and talked to his "team"...I keep getting bounced and ususally down to a general customer rep to anyone with Comcast service issues, not a person with old debt issues.

The last rep said that I needed to write Comcast Communications PO Box 2127 Norcross, GA 30091 and Experian to have this resolved. But she didn't seem that knowledgable about the issue I have.
While I think CMI owns it now, they haven't responded to my letter either. Who's in control? Who do I have to beg. I just want my score a little higher just in case we have to replace DH's aging car. Agh!

Calling 800-630-2140 now and the gentleman says I'm calling Illinois, so he's trying to find someone for me. Wish me luck.

Call 215-640-8960, have them pull up your account (by acct. number or other verification type) and ask them if they account was sold to a CA, or if Comcast just used CMI to recover their funds. They should be able to tell you right away (should be listed on your account file). Tell whomever it is you are talking to what your situation is and ask them to send a request to CMI to have the CA removed from your CR. Beg, plead if you have to. I've read somewhere that Richard Vandestrandt (sp?) is a good rep at Comcast. His direct line is 1-410-931-8558.

According to Will Rosa the gentleman I called, he said that he would have someone from the Virginia office call me tomorrow. So I'm going to wait...if no response I'll call the other phone number. Thanks Xev.
However, the account was back in 2002 and my computer just died with all my old data on it. So I only have my name and the city. Hopefully that will be enough to find it in their system. I'm just not patient enough to wait until July 2009 for the thing to drop off!

For the verification purposes, all you should need is the address that the service was at and then any personal information to verify who you are. You might also be able to give the phone number the account had to locate it. Well, good luck to you! I had the same problem, tossed around to several different people. Then finally I got a hold of someone who knew what they were talking about and helped me out.
