Goodwill Letter Success/Disappointment

I used the Goodwill letter format shown on here to send to Household Bank and Capital One. Each CC had 1 missed payment that happened over 2 years ago. Since then, there have been no more late payments. I was very excited when I learned Household Bank accepted my offer and removed the 1 derrog payment. Not only did they drop that derrog, but they increased my credit limit by $200 without me even asking - talk about service. This action by Household Bank caused my Experian score to jump 27 points - oh yeah. I am very happy with Household Bank right now and I highly recommend them to everyone.

Capital One is a completely different story. They sent me a letter in response to my Goodwill letter that only stated the facts that I already knew to be true about my account without actually saying No, we cannont grant your request at this time. The letter was pretty clear. I definately was not asking for a confirmation. But the result was the same, they did not grant my request. I also had another "bone" to pick with Capital One. My credit limit has remained stagnant for 2 years now. I'm still only at $500 credit limit. So, I called to request a credit limit increase and was told they do not take requests for a credit limit increase and that all accounts are subject to periodic review. I was also told that Capital One is a "conservative" lender. That's all great, but Capital One should not forget who their customers are and treat them with the respect they deserve. In my opinion, this is terrible customer service. Everyone I spoke with at Captial One stated they understand my situation, and that 2 years is a long time to go without a credit limit increase even though I have almost perfect credit with them. However, I was not willing to take "no" for an answer that day. I kept requesting to speak with the current speakers supervisor. In all, I transferred 4-5 times until I hit the ceiling with the account manager. She told me this is as far as I could go and my call stops here. She refused to give me any names and addresses with anyone at Corporate. My request was not hard. My request was reasonable. Is this where customer service is heading?  Bad-Bad-Bad, Captial One.

Curious, did the increase report at the same time the late was removed? I have a few lates that are 2 + years old and was just going to let them be b/c I was under the impression that they didn't affect score that much when that old. But if the late being removed was the only change, then that is a good jump and I'll send some GW letters.

Yes the exact cause of the credit score jump was the removal of the 2 year old derrog, and maybe a little from the credit limit increase, but mainly from the removal.

Re: Goodwill Letter Success/Disappointment

Capital One doesn't increase limits on those low limit accounts.  I have already tried with them and I don't remember the lame reason they gave but the limit will never go up.  It is basically a risk account.  So, when I get my BIG limit cards paid off, I may cancel them only because they charge me a lame "maintenence" fee every month and I don't think they are worth that.
